New York, NY – The New York Ranger organization announced today that the club has signed free agent forward Andrew MacDonald to a two-year contract.
MacDonald, 26, was selected by the Rangers in the second round (No. 67) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
MacDonald recorded 31 goals and 58 assists for 72 points with 72 penalty minutes in 81 games with St. John’s (QMJHL) in 2015-16.
In 74 career AHL games, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound native of Brossard, Quebec scored five goals and recorded four assists for six points with eight penalty minutes.
MacDonald also served as the captain for the St. Johns Rivermen of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2016-17 season.
The St. Kitts and Nevis native was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round (29th overall) of 2013.
MacDonald played for Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
He also spent time with Team Canada during the 2015 U-20 World Championship in Sweden.
The 6-4.25, 230 lb. native of New Brunswick, Quebec is the second player in Rangers history to sign a two year contract.
Forward Alexei Burmistrov was selected in the fourth round (108th overall), 102nd overall, and 182nd overall in the 2011 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
Burmistov spent the past four seasons with the Red Wings, scoring 37 goals and 82 assists for 127 points with a plus-31 rating in 121 games.
Burmisov was a member of Team Russia at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 World Championship and was named to the team’s final World Junior Team.
Prior to joining the Red Wing organization, Burmisova played in the Russian Professional Hockey League with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL and the Kontinental Hockey League for the 2017-18 season.
Prior, he was with the Moscow Dynamo of the Russian Hockey League from 2011-13.
In 2016-2017, Burmistova scored six goals and five assists for four points with six penalty minutes during seven games with the Dynamo.
Burminov will wear the number 51 on his sweater as part of the Rangers’ 2017-2018 campaign.
MacDonald was originally selected by Toronto in the fifth round (116th overall).
MacDonald was signed as a free agent by the Red Starters of the ECHL on March 30, 2018.
MacDonald has skated in three NHL games this season with one assist and six penalty seconds in three games with Team USA.
In his first NHL season, MacDonald tallied eight goals and 19 assists for 37 points with 34 penalty minutes, all of which came with Team Russia in 2017-19.
He was named the 2018 NHL Rookie of the Year.
MacDonald will wear #56 on his jersey as part to the Rangers 2017-2019 campaign.
