By MICHAEL MARTIN, Associated PressArt is a powerful symbol for humanity, but it’s also an important tool for artists.
The work of artists is always about a different kind of person or situation, says Sarah Bremner, professor of history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The first time I saw Michaelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam,” she says, “it was the artist who was working with the world, not the artist himself.”
The creation of Adam was a very difficult image for me to take.
I think the artist was trying to tell us about his own story, not his own person, she says.
It’s a metaphor, a reminder that, yes, we have the same kind of thing in this world.
The same thing with the creation of Eve.
When Eve is created, it’s not because God created Adam, but because Adam was the one who created the universe.
Bremner is the author of the recent book, “The Myth of Creation.”
Bremners research led her to research the mythological characters who created life on earth.
Bryan Fuller, creator of the television show “The Walking Dead,” was the first to explore this myth in “The Book of Genesis.”
He believes it was a good way to connect the ancient stories of the creation and destruction of Adam and Eve to the stories of creation in the Bible.
Fuller says he never had a problem with it.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Fuller said his belief is that God is a big deal.
“If God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all powerful, and he is all in charge of everything, and that includes creation and the destruction of the world and the creation that’s on the earth, then you don’t have to worry about the other people,” he said.
“The creation is a great symbol for God.”
In other words, he said, it says to me, ‘I am all in control.
You are not, you are the problem.’
“I don’t think the Bible or the other sources of ancient mythologies are in the same place as the artist’s thinking, says Bremners associate professor of humanities.
And in the case of Adam, Bremers work shows, there were people who didn’t have the right understanding of the story of Adam’s creation.
The story has a very particular, and very important, connection to the Jewish people, she said.
That’s a very ancient tradition.
Adam is the one that creates the world.
That’s what the Jewish faith teaches.”
It’s not a matter of trying to put together some kind of narrative of Adam.
It’s not about saying, “Oh, I am the creator of everything.
God created me, and I am this.
I am all powerful.
I know everything.
This is me.’
It’s about the human experience.
Adam and his creation.
It was very important to me to have a way of explaining that connection to contemporary audiences,” Bremns work shows.
And that’s what you see in the images in this exhibition, she explains.
You see this image of Adam with his hands on the ground, and the woman standing with her hands over her head.
The woman has a veil over her face, which suggests that there’s a veil that’s being drawn around her.
It also shows the man holding a knife and the serpent, the symbol of death.
The images are very much based on the way modern people perceive the world today, Bemner says.
It has a modern, but ancient feel to it.
